Building Disputes

Building work on houses is now subject to regulation under several complex Acts of Parliament, including the Domestic Building Contracts Act (in relation to the contents of building contracts and other matters), the Building Act (insurance) and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal Act (dispute resolution). The legislation implies into most arrangements with builders obligations about the quality of work, insurance cover in respect of defective work and other matters. Whilst the availability of insurance protects building owners, it also adds a layer of complexity into building contracts and the resolution of disputes.
